AUDITORY CALENDAR SOFTWARE APPLICATION FOR THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED
Fermata is a design concept and interaction model for a web-based calendar application with a central repository for calendar data. The application is designed to run on a variety of mobile devices enabling users to access their calendar information from anywhere. Users navigate their calendars with a combination of simple voice commands, gestures and the universal keypad (up, down, left and right arrows plus an enter key) found on most all computing devices. Calendar information is represented through a multi-dimensional, spatialized soundscape.
"SOUNDSCAPE" COMPOSED OF SPATIALIZED AUDIO ICONS AND SPEECH
In the Fermata design concept, calendar data is translated into a soundscape using a variety of audio icons (sounds that represent kinds of calendar items) and human speech that together form a navigable 3D model of a user’s calendar. Users navigate to different “views” of their calendar from a month to a week to a day to an individual calendar item.
